McGuffey has gone a perfect 5-0 against Keystone Oaks recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Highlanders will venture away from home to face off against the Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
McGuffey was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Steel Valley on Monday. The Highlanders never let the Ironmen get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Highlanders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
McGuffey got a massive performance out of Faith Ealy, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, Ealy posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alaina Neff, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
McGuffey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Keystone Oaks made easy work of East Allegheny on Monday and carried off an 18-1 victory. That looming 18-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Golden Eagles yet this season.
Kailyn Brannon was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Nina Buckley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
McGuffey is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Keystone Oaks, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. McGuffey has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Keystone Oaks struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
McGuffey came out on top in a nail-biter against Keystone Oaks in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
