Volleyball Game Preview: Wabasso Rabbits vs. Canby Lancers

Wabasso is 0-6 against Canby since October of 2019 but things could change on Friday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Wabasso and Red Rock Central had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rabbits walked away with a 3-1 win over the Falcons on Thursday. The Rabbits haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Lakeview typically has all the answers at home, but last Monday Canby proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Lakers with a sharp 3-0 win. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 11, 2022, but that streak is no more.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Canby was: they took every set by at least ten points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-9, 25-15.

Wabasso better focus on containing Jaryn Houseman and Brynn Kockelman as the pair were huge in Canby's win. Houseman had ten digs, while Kockelman hit 69.2% for 11 kills and 11 digs, six aces, and one block. The last time Kockelman's hitting percentage was this high was back in September of 2024.

Canby was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 12 consecutive contests.

Wabasso's record now sits at 17-10. As for Canby, their record is now 19-10.

Wabasso suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Canby in their previous matchup back in October of 2021. Can the Rabbits avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
