Softball Recap: Stagg Takes a Loss

Stagg extended their losing streak to 12 on Friday, dropping them down to 4-19. They lost 15-5 to the Bradley-Bourbonnais Boilermakers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Boilermakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 two weeks ago.

Molly Hackett was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

As for Bradley-Bourbonnais, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. The result was nothing new for Bradley-Bourbonnais, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Bradley-Bourbonnais' side, Abbie Hofbauer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Hofbauer a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Shannon Lee was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kylie Stanek, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Stagg will square off against Oak Lawn at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.81 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Bradley-Bourbonnais does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
