Football Recap: Mendota Aztecs vs. Liberty Hawks
Mendota won against Golden Valley last Friday with 27 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Mendota Aztecs managed a 27-21 victory over the Liberty Hawks. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Aztecs.
David Gonzalez was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shane Williams, who picked up 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Williams got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of59 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Rogers-Lehman, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Mendota's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mendota will welcome McLane at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Liberty, they will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against Dos Palos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
