Basketball Recap: Arrowhead Christian Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Arrowhead Christian Academy lost against Thunderbird Adventist Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Arrowhead Christian Academy Eagles lost to Thunderbird Adventist Academy at home by a 62-47 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Thunderbird Adventist Academy are ranked 93rd).

Despite the loss, Arrowhead Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cole Benton went 7 of 8 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Benton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tristin McLaughlin, who posted eight points along with five boards and five steals.

Patrick Riffel was his usual excellent self, going 13 for 19 on his way to 31 points for Thunderbird Adventist Academy. Riffel is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Aziel Perez was another key player, going 6 of 8 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Arrowhead Christian Academy moved to 4-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Thunderbird Adventist Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Arrowhead Christian Academy has already played their next game (against Orme), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Thunderbird Adventist Academy will look to defend their home court on January 21st against Wickenburg Christian Academy at 8:20 p.m. Thunderbird Adventist Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
