Football Game Preview: Sayre Spartans vs. Berea Pirates

For the first time this season, Sayre will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Berea Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sayre will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Friday, Sayre didn't have too much trouble with Holy Cross as they won 34-20.

Ca'Den Jones went supernova, rushing for 127 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 83 receiving yards and one score. Those 127 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sayre was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holy Cross only rushed for ten.

Sayre didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of William Moore and Beau Perry.

Meanwhile, Berea lost 28-6 to Jackson County on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Generals: they've now lost three in a row.

Berea's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Sayre, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Sayre against Berea when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-7 win. In that contest, the Spartans amassed a halftime lead of 42-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
