Baseball Recap: The Classical Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Sand Creek last Tuesday, The Classical Academy came back down to earth. The Titans fell just short of the Scorpions by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The game marked the Titans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Zach Mediavilla put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mediavilla wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was CJ Mullen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Mullen is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

The Classical Academy's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-2. As for Sand Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Classical Academy will face off against Coronado at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Sand Creek, they will take on Elizabeth at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
