Recap: John Paul II Centurions vs. San Diego Vaqueros
The John Paul II Centurions were the 66-63 winner over the San Diego Vaqueros when they last played one another back in November of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. John Paul II took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of San Diego on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, John Paul II can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1018th, while San Diego is ranked 430th).
Despite the loss, John Paul II still got an impressive performance from Eliseo Garcia, who scored 25 points along with five steals. Garcia scored a full 53.2% of John Paul II's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Joseph Mata, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
John Paul II's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for San Diego, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1.
John Paul II will square off against Corpus Christi United at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Corpus Christi United is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for San Diego, they will head out on the road to face off against Miller at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Miller will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
