Softball Recap: Horizon Picks Up Tenth Straight Win at Home

Horizon put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the South Lake Eagles. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mackenzie Duncan looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordan Schwenneker was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. Lila Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Horizon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Lake only posted an OBP of .200.

Horizon's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for South Lake, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Horizon will face off against Berkeley Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Horizon's pitching crew has only allowed 0.6 runs per game this season, so Berkeley Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Lake, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Tavares at 6:00 p.m. South Lake has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
