Football Game Preview: Savannah Savages vs. Kearney Bulldogs

Savannah hasn't had much luck against Kearney recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Savages will square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Savannah 7.7, Kearney 10.9) so any points scored will be well earned.

Savannah is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 21-10 win over Smithville. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Savages.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Savannah to victory, but perhaps none more so than Riley Cook, who rushed for 81 yards and one TD. Aiden Knechtenhofer helped out on the ground, rushing for 103 yards and a rushing touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Savannah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Another reason for the win was Savannah's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Braylon Ellis was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kearney). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Van Horn 67-20. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bulldogs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Falcons are ranked 141st).

Savannah's record now sits at 10-1. As for Kearney, their record is now 10-0.

Savannah took a serious blow against Kearney in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 34-7. Can the Savages avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
