Softball Game Preview: Tanque Verde Hawks vs. Sabino Sabercats

Tanque Verde hasn't had much luck against Sabino recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Sabercats at 3:45 p.m. Tanque Verde is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.

While Tanque Verde's victory against Coolidge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Bears 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since February 28th.

The team relied heavily on Mikaela Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sara Hoagland, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Tanque Verde hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Sabino came up short against Mica Mountain on Monday and fell 6-1.

Sabino saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Aguirre, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Tanque Verde's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Sabino, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Tanque Verde hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sabino struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Tanque Verde suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Sabino in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
