Baseball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Cougars vs. Holmes Bulldogs

Calvary Christian is a perfect 10-0 against Holmes since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Calvary Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Calvary Christian was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Newport on Monday. The Cougars never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Hudson Neal and Case Craddock were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Neal tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Craddock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Neal went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Craddock went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three hits gave Craddock a new career-high.

In other batting news, Josh Ruwe was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Calvary Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cal Ruwe, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Calvary Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Holmes hadn't done well against Bracken County recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Bulldogs walked away with a 10-7 win over the Polar Bears. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the game before.

Calvary Christian's record is now 16-8. As for Holmes, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-21.

Calvary Christian beat Holmes 7-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
