Baseball Recap: Southington Triumphs

Southington proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 19) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Platt Panthers 5-3.

Gabe Hinkson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mark Zigmont was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Southington's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Platt, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.

Looking ahead, Southington will take on Maloney at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Platt, they will be playing at home against New Britain at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
