Baseball Recap: Heights Has No Trouble Against South

Heights never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the South Titans with a sharp 18-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 26-1 on Wednesday.

Kelyn Goeken looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Heights let Brady Boomsma and Kingston Matchett run wild. Boomsma scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Matchett scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Heights is 2-1 when Boomsma posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Heights is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for South, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.
