Baseball Recap: North Decatur Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

It was a classic North v. South duel when North Decatur took on South Decatur on Saturday. The Chargers walked away with a 4-1 win over the Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-3 on Wednesday.

The team relied heavily on Matthew Fields, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grayson Downey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

North Decatur has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Decatur, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-10.

Coming up, North Decatur will head out on the road to square off against Jac-Cen-Del at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for South Decatur, they will face off against Tri at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.19 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
