Softball Recap: Woodgrove Wins Going Away Against John Champe

Woodgrove never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against the John Champe Knights as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won nine in a row.

Virginia Dowell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Harper, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Woodgrove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Champe only managed two hits.

Woodgrove pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for John Champe, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Woodgrove beat the Knights by a score of 15-3 later that day.
