Softball Game Preview: Bowie Pirates vs. Maud Cardinals

For the second straight game, Bowie will face off against Maud. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bowie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.

Bowie gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't give up any more after. They blew past Maud 22-7. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alleyah Franco made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over 6.1 innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Abigail Dial was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Callie Allen, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Bowie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Bowie's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Maud, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-4 record this season.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bowie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Maud struggles in that department as they've averaged .560. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
