The Garaway Pirates will face off against the Indian Valley Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Garaway is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Hiland just ended the team's three-match winning streak on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks.
Garaway started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-16.
Despite the loss, Garaway saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenya Njoroge had 17 digs.
If Ridgewood wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Indian Valley, they should've done a better job of containing Gionna Miles. The Braves blew past the Generals 3-0 on Thursday thanks in part to Miles, who had 17 digs and three aces. She has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 18 times she's played.
While Indian Valley won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 28-26.
Indian Valley's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Garaway, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 11-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Garaway has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Indian Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
