Baseball Recap: Pine Island Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Pine Island, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Cougars on Friday, they had to take a 2-1 defeat.

Luke Sems spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nick Thein was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pine Island's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Zumbrota-Mazeppa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Pine Island will square off against Chatfield at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Zumbrota-Mazeppa, they will take on Plainview-Elgin-Millville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
