Baseball Recap: Botkins Triumphs

Botkins posted their closest win since April 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Spencerville Bearcats 3-1. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bearcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jay Wildermuth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Botkins is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Botkins' victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Levi Frey, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Will Monnin, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Botkins' win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Spencerville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Botkins will host Fairlawn at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans are facing the Jets at the right time seeing as the Jets are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Spencerville, they will square off against Columbus Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
