Softball Game Preview: Lincoln Golden Bears vs. Homewood Patriots

The Lincoln Golden Bears will be taking part in a tournament against the Homewood Patriots at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Lincoln sitting on three straight wins and Homewood on five (dating back to last season).

Lincoln is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They skirted past John Carroll Catholic 9-8. While the Golden Bears didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Kinsley Crow was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Pruitt, who scored a run.

Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Homewood hadn't done well against Mountain Brook recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Homewood sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Mountain Brook.

Homewood's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Anne Hope Howell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Another was Lucy Robinett, who scored a run and stole a base.

Homewood's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both team's pitchers. Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having hit 0 of their hits per game. However, it's not like Homewood struggles in that department as they've hit 0 of their hits this season.
