Basketball Game Preview: Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes vs. North Pitt Panthers

The Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes will face off against the North Pitt Panthers at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Cape Fear Academy's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while North Pitt has been banged up by 19 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

If Cape Fear Academy beats North Pitt with 49 points on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Cape Fear Academy enjoyed a cozy 49-31 victory over John Paul II Catholic on Friday.

Isaiah Gibson was a one-man wrecking crew for Cape Fear Academy as he went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Domas Undzenas, who posted eight points.

Cape Fear Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Pitt). They blew past West Craven, posting a 78-44 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

North Pitt's win came from a few key players Cape Fear Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Elisha Barrett, who made all 5 shots he took for 14 points and five assists. J'Khye Dixon was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

North Pitt's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-11. As for Cape Fear Academy, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
