Basketball Recap: Basic Takes a Loss

Basic was the 42-30 winner over Desert Oasis when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Basic Wolves took a 39-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks on Monday.

Despite the loss, Basic still got an impressive performance from Mia Frias, who posted 19 points. That was a full 59.4% of Basic's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamilyah (Star) Williams, who earned five points.

Desert Oasis found their leader in sophomore Kazel Jones, who put up 11 points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Atkins-Dowd, who posted six points and five steals.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Desert Oasis, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Basic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-39 defeat against Mater Academy East Las Vegas on the 30th. As for Desert Oasis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-36 loss against Somerset Academy Losee on the 30th.
