Softball Recap: Haywood Tomcats vs. Lake County Falcons

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fayette Academy, Haywood was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Lake County Falcons by a score of 7-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-3 two weeks ago.

Lillian Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Katelyn Coulston was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Averie Parnell, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake County only posted an OBP of .290.

Haywood now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Lake County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Haywood will head out to square off against Fayette Ware at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake County, they will venture away from home to face off against South Fulton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. South Fulton has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something Lake County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
