Volleyball Recap: Ashe County Huskies vs. North Wilkes Vikings

If Ashe County was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Elkin on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Huskies fell just short of the North Wilkes Vikings by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Huskies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Ashe County wouldn't go down easily and took North Wilkes into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 26-28, 25-19, 25-19, 14-25, 15-13.

Gracie Finley paced Ashe County's offense, picking up 18 kills. Finley got some help from Jose Cheek and her 41 assists. Liza Weaver controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Ashe County's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 18-6. As for North Wilkes, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Ashe County has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Watauga on the 29th. As for North Wilkes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Elkin on the 30th.
