Basketball Recap: Bridgewater/Emery Huskies vs. Gayville-Volin Raiders
The Bridgewater/Emery Huskies came into Friday's contest having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged Gayville-Volin out 49-47. This was payback for Bridgewater/Emery, who suffered a 47-35 loss the last time these two teams met.
Gayville-Volin's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Taylor Hoxeng and Maia Achen. Hoxeng scored 21 points, while Achen almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 44.7% of Gayville-Volin's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliza Westrum, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Bridgewater/Emery's victory ended a 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-10. As for Gayville-Volin, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Bridgewater/Emery will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Indians at 6:15 p.m. Flandreau Indian is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Gayville-Volin, they will head out on the road to square off against the at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeman Academy/Marion is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home.
