Coronado barely beat Franklin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went the Coronado Thunderbirds' way against the Franklin Cougars on Wednesday as the Coronado Thunderbirds made off with an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbirds, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jaxon Baptist tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ben Wilson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Walt Mann, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one double.
Coronado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin only posted an OBP of .240.
The win (which was Coronado's third in a row) raised their record to 9-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7-1 record this season.
Coronado will have a chance to go back-to-back against Franklin: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
