Baseball Preview: Galatia/Thompsonville Bearcats vs. Cobden Appleknockers
The Galatia/Thompsonville Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Cobden Appleknockers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Galatia/Thompsonville will be strutting in after a win while Cobden will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, Galatia/Thompsonville was able to grind out a solid victory over Cisne, taking the game 7-3.
AJ Downing made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single hit, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Connor Campbell was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cobden fell victim to Anna-Jonesboro and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 14-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Appleknockers in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
Cobden saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Howell, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
