Softball Game Preview: Downey Knights vs. Turlock Bulldogs

Downey is 2-8 against Turlock since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Knights will head out to challenge the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Downey is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Modesto, falling 8-1.

Chloe Moreno was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Camilla Boles was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Turlock unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gregori.

Audrey Bailey was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Rylee Murphy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

Downey's record now sits at 1-18. As for Turlock, their record is now 7-12.

Downey might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Turlock in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
