Softball Recap: Arcadia Triumphs

Arcadia proved they can win big last Monday (they won by nine) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Riverdale Falcons 13-12. With that victory, the Redskins brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Alanna Tucker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off 14 hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Arcadia got a massive performance out of Jade Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That double marked the first that Johnson hit this season. Addyson McCartney was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Arcadia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Arcadia back to even at 6-6. As for Riverdale, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arcadia will host Hopewell-Loudon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chieftains have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Riverdale, they will be playing at home against Upper Scioto Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.13 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
