It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hoover had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Farmersville Aztecs. The victory was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won 12 games in a row.

Hazel Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Nieto, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Keilana Duron, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Hoover's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Farmersville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-6 record this season.

Hoover will be playing at home against Orange Cove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. Farmersville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
