Basketball Game Preview: Madison Patriots vs. Avery County Vikings

Madison is 0-10 against Avery County since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Madison Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Avery County Vikings at 6:30 p.m. Avery County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Madison, who comes in off a win.

Madison will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Draughn, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. Madison pulled ahead with a 40-39 photo finish over Draughn on Friday.

Meanwhile, Avery County came up short against Mountain Heritage on Friday and fell 57-50.

Madison will have to keep a close watch on Marley Jones and Caroline Hollifield, a pair of players who had a big impact on Avery County's prior game. Jones went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points and seven boards, while Hollifield went 6 for 9 en route to 15 points and three blocks. That's the most blocks Hollifield has posted since back in December of 2023.

Avery County's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Madison, their win bumped their record up to 5-13.

Madison suffered a grim 59-35 defeat to Avery County when the teams last played back in January. Can Madison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
