Softball Recap: Deland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lecanto

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DeLand). They came out on top against the Lecanto Panthers by a score of 11-8 on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the contest before.

De-Niya Padgett and Yanelie Echevarria did most of the damage at the plate: Padgett went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Echevarria scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That triple was Padgett's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cheyanne Gosselin, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

DeLand was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

DeLand's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Lecanto, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DeLand will challenge Space Coast at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lecanto, they will square off against Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
