Baseball Recap: Cary Comes Up Short

If Cary was feeling good fresh off their 8-2 takedown of Green Level last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cary fell 8-3 to the Middle Creek Mustangs on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 last Tuesday.

Cary got a good showing from Logan Joyce, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Joyce has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cary saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylan Joyner, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Joyner a new career-high. Another was Owen Green, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Cary has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. The victory (which was Middle Creek's third in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cary will take on Cardinal Gibbons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal Gibbons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cary surely won't give up without a fight. As for Middle Creek, they will challenge Wakefield at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Middle Creek 2.5, Wakefield 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
