Baseball Recap: Carnegie Vanguard Takes a Loss

Carnegie Vanguard extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 8-9. They fell 9-4 to the Westbury Huskies. The Rhinos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Carnegie Vanguard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maxwell Law, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. The Rhinos are 4-1 when Law posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

As for Westbury, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Westbury's side, Yandel Leal spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Daniel Quiroz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Westbury beat Carnegie Vanguard by a score of 7-3 later that day.
