Baseball Game Preview: Shadow Ridge Mustangs vs. Desert Oasis Diamondbacks

The Shadow Ridge Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Shadow Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Las Vegas, who was ranked ninth at the time (Shadow Ridge was ranked 15th). The Mustangs walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Wildcats on Friday. Eight seems to be a good number for the Mustangs as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jackson Nelson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anthony Montesanti, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Dylan Foster also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Shadow Ridge lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Desert Oasis owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They blew past The Meadows School 9-0.

Shadow Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Oasis, their record now sits at 18-11.

Shadow Ridge came up short against Desert Oasis in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 5-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
