Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Falls Despite Big Games from Alex Treglia and Cayden Cooper

Cheyenne Mountain suffered their biggest defeat since February 14, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against the Lutheran Lions, falling 72-46. The loss continues a trend for the Red-Tailed Hawks in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the defeat, Cheyenne Mountain had strong showings from Cayden Cooper, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards, and Alex Treglia, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. The contest was Treglia's third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Larner, who posted three points.

Kade Speckman was his usual excellent self, going 9-for-13 en route to 27 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists for Lutheran. Speckman has been hot, having posted 21 or more points the last five times he's played. Owen Oldenburg was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.

Cheyenne Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Lutheran, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Cheyenne Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-47 win against Lewis-Palmer on the 7th. As for Lutheran, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-44 victory against Palmer Ridge on the 7th.
