Football Recap: Bodonn Sweeney and Kelier Arrazcaeta Duray Pace Madison Defense

Madison won the last time they faced Newman Grove/St. Edward and Bodonn Sweeney did his part to make sure it happened again. The Dragons walked away with a 32-22 victory over the Panthers on Thursday for which the team can thank Sweeney, who rushed for 297 yards and three scores while picking up 12.9 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards.

Madison didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Sweeney and Kelier Arrazcaeta Duray. Sweeney also punched in three rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Madison is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-5 otherwise.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nolan Werts, who rushed for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The win made it two in a row for Madison and bumps their season record up to 2-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

As of now, neither Madison nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
