Softball Game Preview: Old Orchard Beach Seagulls vs. St. Dominic Saints

For the second straight game, Old Orchard Beach will face off against St. Dominic. The Seagulls will square off against the Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Old Orchard Beach is leaving town to face St. Dominic after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Seagulls lost 16-0 to the Saints on Monday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 15 in a row.

For St. Dominic's part, Emily Andrews and Madeline Andrews made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Andrews pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Madeline pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Andrews got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Madeline went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Emily is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Chloe Croteau was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Croteau, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base.

St. Dominic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Old Orchard Beach suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to St. Dominic in their previous meeting on Monday. Can the Seagulls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
