Football Game Preview: Wilson Memorial Green Hornets vs. Alleghany Cougars

The Wilson Memorial Green Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Alleghany Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilson Memorial will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Wilson Memorial's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Rockbridge County, posting a 52-0 victory. That looming 52-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Green Hornets yet this season.

Wilson Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaiah Scott and Andrew Haley.

Meanwhile, Alleghany put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Buffalo Gap with points to spare, taking the game 27-11. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Bison are ranked 227th).

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Haiden Nicely and Jaquin Godfrey. Nicely threw for 184 yards and two TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes while Godfrey picked up 74 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Wilson Memorial's record now sits at 5-1. As for Alleghany, their record is now 6-0.

Wilson Memorial was taken down by Alleghany 44-14 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Cougars' Desmond Jordan, who threw for 223 yards and three TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 64 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Now that the Green Hornets know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
