Football Recap: Greeley Central Takes a Loss

Greeley Central extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They were beaten by the Niwot Cougars 53-6. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

As for Niwot, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

A big part of Niwot's win came down to the chemistry between Caleb Roby and his top target Jaydan Martinez. Roby gained 115 total yards and two touchdowns while Martinez picked up 133 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Those 133 receiving yards gave Martinez a new career-high. Eli Quesada did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

Greeley Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-6 defeat against Timnath on the 31st. As for Niwot, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 31-26 victory against Northridge on the 31st.
