Football Recap: Webster County Comes Up Short

Webster County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 41-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Calhoun Red Devils. The Highlanders gained 194 more yards on the day, but it was the Red Devils that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Webster County still got an impressive performance from Ryder Wright, who picked up 112 receiving yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 119 yards and one score on only 14 carries. Wright's longest reception was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Another player making a difference was Eli Amos, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries.

Brennen Carpenter was a one-man wrecking crew For Calhoun. as he rushed for 92 yards and three scores. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Carpenter a new career-high. Another big playmaker for Calhoun was Chase Schoolcraft, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Webster County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Calhoun, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Webster County will take on Pocahontas County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Calhoun, they will challenge Ritchie County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
