Softball Recap: De Pere Redbirds vs. Ashwaubenon Jaguars
De Pere extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 11-9. They lost 13-2 to the Ashwaubenon Jaguars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 back in April.
De Pere saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaelyn Craig, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Ashwaubenon, they pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.
On Ashwaubenon's side, Grace Aichele was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Aichele has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Woodworth, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Lauren Seeling was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
De Pere wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-8 win against Manitowoc Lincoln on the 14th. As for Ashwaubenon, they have also already played their next game, a 2-0 victory against Pulaski on the 14th.
