Softball Recap: Springfield Now 12-3 over Last 15 Games

Springfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt East on Wednesday. The Spartans never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Joey Klein made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Springfield got a big performance out of Hannah Goodson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Bre Ruggiero was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Springfield has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for East, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

As of now, neither Springfield nor the Dragons have any future games scheduled.
