Baseball Recap: Wilson Area Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Wilson Area, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Notre Dame Spartans with a sharp 12-2 victory on Thursday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Liam Coyle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Wilson Area: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Braden Benevides was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Wilson Area is undefeated when Benevides posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dylan Penyak, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Wilson Area lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Wilson Area's record is now 9-10. As for Notre Dame, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Wilson Area will welcome Notre Dame-Green Pond at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Notre Dame, they will venture away from home to face off against Belvidere at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
