Volleyball Recap: Montezuma-Cortez's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against Monument Valley on Friday, Montezuma-Cortez came back down to earth. The Panthers fell 3-1 to the Bayfield Wolverines on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

While Montezuma-Cortez ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-27, 25-20, 25-17.

Among those leading the charge was Maeli Quintana, who had eight digs and three aces. Lily Muir also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

Montezuma-Cortez's loss ended a four-match streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for Bayfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Montezuma-Cortez is set to face off against their familiar foe Centauri at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bayfield will take on rival Pagosa Springs at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
