Baseball Recap: Aquilla Drops Season-High Score on Gholson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Aquilla). They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over Gholson on Tuesday. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Ryan Hill made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Aquilla: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Aquilla got a massive performance out of Mason Cockrell, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave Cockrell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rayce Yrios, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Aquilla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Aquilla has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Gholson, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coincidentally, Aquilla and Gholson will both be playing Oglesby the next time they take the field. The Cougars will host the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while Gholson will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
