Preview: Eagle Ridge Academy Warriors vs. Stargate School Eagles
Eagle Ridge Academy is 4-0 against Stargate School since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Eagle Ridge Academy Warriors will look to defend their home court against the Stargate School Eagles at 11:30 a.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Eagle Ridge Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Kent Denver, falling 60-31. Eagle Ridge Academy has not had much luck with Kent Denver recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Eagle Ridge Academy saw an underclassman step up: Carole Tamburino dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Tamburino has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 17 times she's played. Madi DiLorenzo was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Stargate School had to suffer through a rough 47-15 loss at the hands of Peak to Peak. Stargate School was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-6.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Daniela Lewis and
Malavika Iyengar, who each put up four points.
Eagle Ridge Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Stargate School, they dropped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Eagle Ridge Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 40.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Stargate School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Eagle Ridge Academy strolled past Stargate School in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 45-26. Will Eagle Ridge Academy repeat their success, or does Stargate School have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
