Softball Recap: Grace's Loss Ends 12-Game Winning Streak at Home

Grace dropped their record down to 12-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Oak Park Eagles by a score of 5-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2022.

Rosy Salazar spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grace saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Maguire, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

As for Oak Park, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 22nd.

On Oak Park's side, Erika Samuels tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, Isabella Jauregui was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Scupine, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Grace will venture away from home to face off against Santa Clara at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lancers 4, the Saints 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Oak Park, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Camarillo at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Scorpions have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
