Baseball Game Preview: Wachusett Regional Mountaineers vs. Algonquin Regional Titans

Wachusett Regional and Algonquin Regional are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mountaineers will be playing at home against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wachusett Regional 3.4, Algonquin Regional 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Wachusett Regional is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since May 20, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Franklin 5-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mountaineers.

Brady Hughes tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Nate Roy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Travis Laidlaw was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Algonquin Regional never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Milford on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Scarlet Hawks with a sharp 12-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Titans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Algonquin Regional's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Wachusett Regional, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
